Queen Elizabeth II speech to parliament 2009

My government’s overriding priority is to ensure sustained growth to deliver a fair and prosperous economy for families and businesses, as the British economy recovers from the global economic downturn. Through active employment and training programmes, restructuring the financial sector, strengthening the national infrastructure and providing responsible investment, my government will foster growth and employment. My government will also strengthen key public services, ensuring that individual entitlements guarantee good services, and will work to build trust in democratic institutions. My government will seek effective global and European collaboration through the G20 and the European Union to sustain economic recovery and to combat climate change, including at the Copenhagen summit next month. The Duke of Edinburgh and I look forward to our visit to Bermuda and our state visit to Trinidad and Tobago and to the Commonwealth heads of government meeting in this, the Commonwealth’s 60th anniversary year. We also look forward to receiving the president of South Africa next year. My government will continue to reform regulation of the financial services industry to ensure greater protection for savers and taxpayers . Legislation will be brought forward to enhance the governance of the financial sector and to control the system of rewards. As the economic recovery is established, my government will reduce the budget deficit and ensure national debt is on a sustainable path

Well If you were British then maybe you would care. I say this because it is “Rabel” not ravel!

If the Queen goes so do the last few powers our country has. She is the only peoson who is stopping the Devolution of powers from our government to the European Union! She is the only person standing up for the British public!

  6. CoreyStudios2000 says:

@LogInForPaper and then what? french revolution was unsuccessful and the First French Republic was unsuccessful and the new regime faced attacks its people and foreign countries in Europe until Napoleon came top power and created the French Empire. Read some French history and look on why the French revolution was unable for a stable government.

  7. JuanMacready says:

The Queen is just a complete irrelevance with no power at all, just like every monarch since William IV.

  8. twjsbt says:

if it is the queens government then she should rid it of the dirty traitors within it

  9. Medeasbiggestfan says:

@LogInForPaper I don’t think you do want that.

  10. LogInForPaper says:

    @Medeasbiggestfan

I think there should be a British revolution a bit like the French one. We should take all the royalty and aristocrates and behead them all in Trafalgar square!

Ravel ravel ravel ravel ravel ravel …

@LogInForPaper The vast majority of people in the UK don’t want a republic.

  15. LogInForPaper says:

    Make Britain a republic!!

It is absolutely repulsive the way that people are taking sides over something that ended over 200 years ago. Even the Queen has said that America was impossible to keep. Elizabeth II is nothing like George III. This lady has devoted her entire life to the service of her people. She has worn that heavy and ancient crown with grace and dignity since she was 25 years old, a young woman in what was a male dominated era. Doesn’t she deserve just the slightest bit of respect for what she has done?

  17. phil1958uk says:

All that’s good about the queen, is the fact that she has bags of money, think of just one thing she’s achieved in her life, because I can’t!

  18. cagedchild says:

White supremecy at it’s finest. Economic my fucking ass, get a goddam knife and hunt for food. Revert to the day before technology because we are becoming more and more slaves. WE DONT NEED MONEY, YOU CAN’T EAT IT.

  19. Apachecatdog says:

In the United Kingdom, 84% of people support the Monarchy, and 78% of people want it to continue beyond Elizabeth the Second. It is perhaps the most popular institution left in this country, and only a minority with little appreciation for history would ever want it abolished.

  20. Medeasbiggestfan says:

    In answer to your questions:

The Queen has very little power.

She came to the thrown after the death of her father (King George VI).

The Queen sustain’s her thrown because she is one of the of the most respected people in the world and the UK gains great prestige as a result of having her as Head of State. Also, most people in the UK support the Queen, if they didn’t, the MPs’ would see votes in removing her from the thrown and do just that.

  21. christian24661 says:

i wonder how the have so much power and become kings and queens? i can’t actually understand how they’re sustaining their powers as queen and kings. are they just really rich or because of the the people who support and respect their highness?

  22. KevinEdwardMiah says:

I’m in the USA, very cool how England still has a Royal Throne.

  23. phil1958uk says:

    There IT is!

  24. SAMURAISWORD1000 says:

American had better learn English from Queen Elizabeth II.

  25. Medeasbiggestfan says:

That’s true. The Queen is currently monarch of 16 sovereign states, it is a matter for the parliament of each of those countries who their head of state is.

It would be wrong for one of those country’s parliaments to make decisions which would change the head of state of all the other commonwealth realms.
