EEVblog #47 – Recruitment Consultants Suck, and Engineering Evil

100% pure rant time. Dave cuts lose on recruitment consultants, local component suppliers, and companies that make you register to get datasheets.

LOVE IT! TOTALLY AGREE!! Next time they call, go see them in person and charge them a fee for your advice. Personally, I loathe, hate, despise all these headhunters and temp-agencies. They’re runned by monkeys and they look for monkeys to hire. Anyone with more than half-a-brain and an education scares the crap out of them. They’re as worst as pimps. No wait, that’s an insult to pimps.

Dave I can relate to that 100%. Recruiters suck. I used to work as an engineering recruiter and its exactly the shit I had to do. I hated it. Endless cold calls to companies, endless calls to candidates. You have to learn how to enjoy licking people’s arse with the tip of your tongue in this industry and boy am I’m glad I quit this shit.

What annoys me are follow up phone calls from sampling components. Here I am, trying to design some complicated shit, and these bastards have the nerve to interrupt my train of thought, just out of the blue, every few days or so, with a salesman asking “how’s it going?” and throwing a bloody sales pitch. It’s damned annoying! Bugger off!! I’m leery of sampling/using TI and Lattice parts as a result. Microchip never calls me to throw a stupid sales pitch, I love them. Fairchild is good too.

Well, maybe one day we will have to have a phone line for friends and relatives and another phone line for spam…

    just like with emails XD

  12. pikuorguk says:

I know someone who answers sales calls and anything without a caller ID with the phrase “What is your authorisation code?”

  13. woodlanduk says:

nice one Dave, i with you on the Data sheets all i want are the specs of the componants not a 3 week sales pitch with you knowing all my details, great blog mate but the worse by far is retailers saying to ant question is “HAVE YOU LOOKED ON THE INTERNET” and mate im only a garden shed inventer.

I’ve used the same Marvell GigE chip before and was hit with the same NDA rubbish! A sympathetic dealer let us have the datasheet on the sly…

  15. First2ner says:

hahahaha great vid, they get better and better, love them sooooo much

  16. tesla500 says:

I know exactly how you feel about registering for datasheets! I’m building a project on an Altera 3C120 FPGA board, and it has a Marvell GigE PHY. Marvell makes you sign a FREAKING NDA to get the datasheet!

What could possibly be so secret about the part?! Luckily I’ve been able to piece together enough info from Google to get it working. I would never in a million years consider buying anything from Marvell.

6:01 Dave turns green and rips his shirt

  18. EEVblog says:

We have the same thing in Australia, called the do not call register. But it’s only for telemarketers, so consultants and suppliers you’ve delt with in the past are probably exempt.
A friend just gives the phone to his 3yo!

  19. Dohzr says:

    hahaha

  20. onlywhenprovoked says:

we have that here in america too, but I’m not sure how they enforce it… I’m on the list and I’ve gotten several calls.

I just chew their goddamned ear off and make them never want to speak to me again.

  21. migsantiago says:

    hahaha those stupid phone calls

Here in Mexico there’s a law that avoids “phone spamming”. You just have to register your phone number if you want to avoid these people from calling you.

If they do, their phone call is logged and they have to pay a fine. :D

    Nice blog Dave :D

  22. chromebeats says:

Put them on hold for an hour :D
