Justice for Women Stalked in the Workplace and Retaliation by Their Employers

November 4th, 2010

Washington, DC – Martin v. Howard University and Alice Gresham Bullock, US Supreme Court No. 08-204. In 1997, Howard University Law Professor Dawn Martin was stalked on campus by a delusional serial stalker, Leonard Harrison. Despite instructions to Howard University from the Washington DC Police Department to implement and improve its campus security, Howard failed to take action, and instead, punished Professor Martin by refusing to renew her teaching contract. The story you are about to watch is the true story of Dawn Martin’s 11-year Journey for Justice for her and all women who are stalked in the workplace. The National Organization for Women and The National Association of Women Lawyers join her cause. When Prof. Martin was stalked by Leonard Harrison, he was searching for the physical embodiment of his “fantasy” wife — a fictional female character in a book, written by the renowned civil rights Professor, Derrick Bell. Instead of following its own security procedures to ban Harrison from campus, Howard responded to Prof. Martin’s requests for protection by refusing to renew her teaching contract. She sued Howard, under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits discrimination and harassment, on the basis of sex/gender. Prof. Martin alleged that Howard permitted the stalker to harass her on the basis of her gender in her workplace. 78% of stalking victims are women. 54% of female murder victims reported their stalkers to the police before being

2Pac – Brenda’s Got A Baby

November 4th, 2010

”Brenda’s Got a Baby” is the solo debut single by Tupac Shakur, and tenth track from his debut album, 2Pacalypse Now. The song, which features R&B singer Dave Hollister, is about a fictional twelve-year-old girl named Brenda who lives in a ghetto, has a baby, and is incapable of supporting it. The song explores the issue of teen pregnancy and its effect on the young mothers and their families. Like many of Shakur’s songs, “Brenda’s Got a Baby” draws from the plight of the impoverished. Using Brenda to represent young mothers in general, Shakur criticises the low level of support from the babies’ father, the government, and society in general. Shakur wrote the song when he read a newspaper article about a twelve-year-old girl who got pregnant from her cousin and, because she didn’t want her parents to know about the baby, threw it in a trash can. The opening consists of a duet singing the songs title repeatedly. Much of the rest of the song is one long verse performed by Tupac. The verse begins with him telling a group that he has heard about Brendas pregnancy. He also notes that the girl has had virtually no education in her life, having only barely obtained minimal skills in writing, and calls this a “damn shame”, criticizing and has little hope in life. Her family is very poor, and her father is a heroin addict. Brenda is impregnated by her unnamed boyfriend, who is her cousin, but she is successfully able to hide her pregnancy. Tupac explains that it wouldnt matter to

Timothy Geithner Scandal Widens: Obama’s Treasury Secretary Nominee is a Tax Dodger, Cheater

November 3rd, 2010

Obama wants this tax dodger to be our Treasury Secretary because he is so bright and knowledgeable about our financial system, and yet he can’t even figure out his own tax liability, what a joke. Obama’s press secretary said: He’s dedicated his career to our country and served with honor, intelligence and distinction. That service should not be tarnished by honest mistakes, which, upon learning of them, he quickly addressed. That is a load of BS He didn’t pay the $34000 to the IRS until one day before being announced as Obamas nominee for Treasurer. I can only think of two reasons why he waited so long to pay his overdue taxes. The first is that he never intended to pay them at all. He was going to wait and see if he could somehow get out of it. He waited until the last day just encase Obama changed his mind and decided not to nominate him. The other possible reason is that he is incompetent, and can’t figure out the simplest parts of our tax code. So now we are either going to have a tax cheat, or an incompetent fool as the Treasurer of our country, which do you prefer? I prefer neither. To me he is now tainted, and I do not trust him. I’m confident that in a nation of over 300000 million people, we can find someone of integrity fill that position. Barack Obama Worked For The CIA – John Pilger

November 2nd, 2010

Can President Obama be serious when he says he accepts the Nobel Peace Prize as an affirmation of American leadership on behalf of aspirations held by people of all nations? Among all nations does he include the people of Iraq? Polls show folks there overwhelmingly want the US to get out. Apparently, they didnt care for their dose of American leadership. Does Obamas all nations include Okinawa, which the US has occupied for 64 years and refuses to leave? Does all nations include Diego Garcia, whose inhabitants the US forced from their island homes in the Indian Ocean, (as Time magazine has reported,) and whose dogs we gassed for good measure? (President Bush later used that base to attack Afghanistan, the better to dominate the oil-rich Middle East.) Since hes been in office only a short time, when Obama speaks of an affirmation of American leadership is he referring to the eight years of warmongering by his predecessor George W. Bush, who tore up every international treaty he could lay his hands on? In fact, global public opinion polls identified Bush as one of the most feared public figures on the planet. What kind of leadership is it when one UN member invades another based on lies and kills a million of its people, steals it blind, and shatters its economy? Calling that leadership is a bit wide of the mark. Perhaps Obama is referring to the leadership of his friend Bill Clinton, who let half a million Iraqi children starve to death during his White House watch and who

As expected, opponents of equality, led by the National Organization for Marriage and the Catholic Church, petitioned to have those rights put to a vote by referendum. This film chronicles the final days of the on-the-ground campaign to protect marriage equality in Maine. The Democratic National Committee ignored the fight to protect marriage for all couples in Maine, neglecting to donate funds to the cause (even though they reportedly raised over a million dollars from gay donors in June of this year) or to mobilize potentially thousands of volunteers through its Organizing for America arm. The DNC even sent emails to voters in Maine urging them to help with Jon Corzine’s failed gubernatorial reelection in New Jersey, potentially diverting needed volunteers, but also showing that they deemed the fight for marriage equality unworthy of their attention. President Obama never acknowledged the NO ON ONE campaign. If marriage equality is to be fought for on a state-by-state basis, then our

WINNIE MONSOD ANALYZES PRES ARROYO’S HUGE COSTS ON 72 FOREIGN TRIPS – FILIPINOS ARE NOT DUMB!

November 1st, 2010

blogs.gmanews.tv Analysis: Arroyo’s 72 foreign trips (Following is the transcript of the segment “Analysis by Winnie Monsod” which aired on News on Q on August 17, 2009. Prof. Winnie Monsod is the resident analyst of News on Q which airs weeknights at 9:30 pm on Q Channel 11.) President Gloria Arroyo has left the country around 72 times since she assumed the presidency in 2001. That’s an average of 8 trips a year. She in fact has spent almost ten percent of her time abroad, because out of the 3125 days she has been in office as of August 11, at least 310 days have been spent out of the country. During this time, she visited 40 foreign countries, 21 of them at least twice and has managed to visit the United States at least once a year. Actually, she has visited the US a total of 15 times in the past 8 and a half years. As with practically everything else she does, her peripatetic tendency has been criticized with her critics wondering why, when the country is pressed for financial resources, so much of the Filipino taxpayers’ money is being used for what is considered an unnecessary expense. The countries the President has visited are either our major trading and investment partners, major oil suppliers, major employers of our overseas Filipino workers, and major sources of foreign assistance or some combination of the above. And generally, the more important the country in these categories, the larger the number of visits: the US has been visited 15 times (although

WINNIE MONSOD EXPLAINS C-5 ROAD EXTENSION UNNECESSARY BUT BENEFITED MANNY VILLAR

November 1st, 2010

opinion.inquirer.net MANNY VILLAR BLAMELESS? WHILE the Senate is declaring a moratorium on the discussion of the ethics case against Sen. Manny Villar, here are some incontrovertible facts, presented in Q & A form. The source of the information is also given. Question: What roadway projects are the subject matter of the Villar ethics controversy? Answer: 1. The Manila Cavite Toll Expressway Project (MCTEP), the original C-5 south extension project, linking SLEX with the Coastal Road; 2. the DPWH C-5 Extension project (CX-5), which together with 3. the Las Piñas-Parañaque Link Project (LPPLP), also links SLEX with the Coastal Road. Source: Senate Report (SR) 780. Q: Is the CX-5/LPPLP project a realignment, as Sen. Jamby Madrigal describes it, or has there been no realignment, as Senator Villars allies insist? A: Technically there has been no realignment, because these are two separate roads linking C-5 from SLEX to the Coastal Road. But they are very close together and, in some areas, overlap, as can be ascertained from a site map. Source: interactive map available at www.gmanews.tv Q: Are there any differences between the MCTEP and the CX-5/LPPLP? A: Yes. 1. The MCTEP is a joint-venture project between the government and a private Malaysian partner, with the governments financial exposure limited to P2.68 billion for the purchase of the road right-of-way; the private partner is responsible for the construction of the project, for which tolls will be charged. The CX-5
