Meet Scott, John, Ben and James, wounded warriors from Iraq who have adapted to new careers with the help of the Army Wounded Warrior Career Project. Finding a job is tough today, but its even more difficult for the wounded warrior. Achieving satisfactory quality of life often depends on finding a job or training for a new career, but disability is a barrier for many veterans. Many who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan are dealing with severe physical disabilities as a result of blast injuries, burns, amputations, and spinal injuries. More than 200 of these wounded veterans are receiving career guidance and job search assistance through the Army Wounded Warrior Career Project, a program of the National Organization on Disability. Kessler Foundation provides substantial support through a Signature Program Grant. This video features employed veterans in Colorado, one of three sites where the AW2 Career Project offers services. Working with the Warrior Transition Unit at Ft. Carson in Colorado Springs, career specialist and former Marine Robert Alvarez coordinates job support services and works with employers. Former soldiers draw from a range of services that include therapy, financial assistance, legal help and ongoing support after job placement. These comprehensive services are what make the AW2 Career Project so different than anything out there today, Alvarez emphasized. An Alabama jury found that Goodyear Tire Company discriminated against Lilly Ledbetter for almost twenty years because she was a woman. The Supreme Court reversed the history of employment discrimination and said that since Ms. Ledbetter failed to file her discrimination claim within 180 days of being hired, that Goodyear was allowed to pay her less money than a man doing the same job. Hear from Lilly in her own words in this short video.
Pakistan Air Force (PAF) successfully validated its concept of fighter operations from motorway when its two fighter aircraft landed on a motorway. The historic landmark was achieved as part of the ongoing High Mark-2010 exercise. After landing, the aircraft were refuelled, rearmed and re-launched. While the point where the two aircraft touched down was not specified, it was believed to be somewhere on the Islamabad-Lahore motorway or that linking the capital with Peshawar. High Mark-2010, launched March 15, is the PAFs biggest war game in five years and covers the the entire country from Skardu in the north till the Arabian Sea in the south. According to a PAF spokesman, the ever changing geo-political environment in the region demands change in the employment concepts and doctrinal changes in the application of air power with emphasis on joint operations. High Mark-2010 would provide the PAF an opportunity to validate these concepts that are vital for the overall defence of the country, he added. To this end, the spokesman said, High Mark-2010 is aimed at conducting operations in a near-realistic tactical environment while integrating new inductions and providing role-oriented training to the combat and support elements of the force. The exercise is designed to achieve stipulated objectives with special emphasis on exposing PAF combat crew to simulated air battles based on contemporary concepts, he added. The exercise includes joint operations with extensive …

Yuriy Norshteyn was born in the village of Andreyevka, Penza Oblast, during his parents’ World War II evacuation. He grew up in the Maryina Roshcha suburb of Moscow. After studying at an art school, Norshteyn initially found work at a furniture factory. Then he finished a two-year animation course and found employment at studio Soyuzmultfilm in 1961. The first film that he participated in as an animator was Who Said “Meow”? (1962). After working as an animation artist in some fifty films, Norshteyn got the chance to direct his own. In 1968 he debuted with 25th October, the First Day, sharing directorial credit with Arkadiy Tyurin. The film used the artwork of 1920s-era Soviet artists Altman and Petrov-Vodkin. The next film in which he had a major role was The Battle of Kerzhenets (1971), a co-production with Russian animation director Ivan Ivanov-Vano under whose direction Norshteyn had earlier worked on 1969’s Times of the Year. Throughout the 1970s Norshteyn continued to work as an animator in many films (a more complete list can be found at IMDB), and also directed several. As the decade progressed his animation style became ever more sophisticated, looking less like flat cut-outs and more like smoothly-moving paintings or sophisticated pencil sketches. Norshteyn uses a special technique in his animation, involving multiple glass planes to give his animation a three-dimensional look. The camera is placed at the top looking down on a series of glass planes about a meter …
