Despite doom and gloom headlines of the past year, manufacturing is a vibrant and rewarding employment sector for graduates with high-tech skills. Thats the fundamental message of this episode of “degrees that work,” focusing on advanced manufacturing. The program features a group of Pennsylvania College of Technology manufacturing students, who possess the hands-on, high-tech skills desired by manufacturers. The students test their skills by designing and building an off-road vehicle for an exciting international competition in Quebec: Baja SAE Montreal. In addition to chronicling the students preparation and performance at the event, the episode provides an inside view of manufacturing with representatives from the National Association of Manufacturers, the nations largest industrial trade organization, and Synthes and Victaulic, two leading worldwide manufacturers. Over the past few years, some Israelis wanting to work in the US have been saying during visa interviews that they want to go to the US only as tourist travelers. After their arrival at a US airport and questioning by immigration inspectors, the true purpose of their US trip is then discovered. What can follow is detention, possibly a court hearing, and then an immediate return to Israel along with a multi-year ban on future travels to the United States. This video features Israelis speaking honestly about their negative experience, resulting from an attempt to break the law, go around the system, and act illegally. We hope you’ll agree with them that the price of breaking US immigration law is too high! Please stick to the law and have a great trip to the US!!!
OUT AT WORK is a 15-minute animated video resource pack by Leeds Animation Workshop. It offers a simple introduction to the Employment Equality (Sexual Orientation, Religion or Belief) Regulations 2003. These equality regulations have now outlawed discrimination. But old-fashioned attitudes don’t change overnight, and many people who are lesbian, gay or bisexual are still not being treated fairly. The film tells the stories of six workers in a variety of jobs. They come from very different backgrounds, and each has their own way of dealing with prejudice against lesbians, gays and bisexuals. · James is a young man looking for work in IT · Meena is starting her first job in a hospital · Ryan is a mechanic, and a father · Sarah is a teacher · Barry has worked for years in a hotel kitchen · Chrissie has never met anyone openly gay before, but stands up for Tim when he joins the team in her office. Their stories focus on the issues that face an LGB person at work: going for an interview, starting a new job, how you deal with coming out, what happens when your partner gets ill, what it feels like when you are on your own, and when you get some support. They show how the equality laws can work in everyday situations, and why they are important for all of us. Leeds Animation Workshop, the non-profit-making co-operative company that produced the DVD, has made over 30 productions on subjects including equality, harassment, workplace and family problems. Commissioned by the Women …
